Guided Tour of General Verona Panoramic – Half Day

Program

“There’s no life without Verona walls” Shakespeare makes Romeo say when Juliet’s lover is forced to leave his town in exile. Our routes mean to introduce the tourists to all the facets of this jewel of a-town, plunged between the sweet hills and the Po Plain, between the river the vineyards and the olive-trees, in a very delicate climate, where tradition tells us the most famous love tragedy took place.
For those groups who have only a short time here and want to take a quick look at the town , we propose a panoramic tour by bus, having a view of the town including the Renaissance city Gates, Castle and Scaligero Bridge, Gavi Arch, Roman Gate “Porta Borsari”, The View of the town from the St. Leonhard’s hill “Panoramic Point”, and Roman Theatre. The sightseeing continues with a walking tour in the old city-centre visiting the most characteristic points such as: Juliet’s House, Signori Square, Market Square, Scaligeri Tombs “Arche Scaligere”, Bra Square with the famous Roman Amphitheatre “Arena” (possible interior visit, entrance fee). The ride up the hill of St Leonhard can be substituted with the visit to the Basilica of S. Zeno, including the vision of the Mantegna’s altar-piece, the famous work recently restaured.

Additional Information

If the walls clearly separate the city from the surrounding territory – and not only physically but also “ideologically” – the gates are the link between these two worlds. A link that must be constantly monitored, also because through the countryside, inhabited by rustics, travelers or armies move, on important and less important roads, often with peaceful intentions but sometimes also with warlike intentions. Travelers are admitted after precise checks on their identity and their intentions, armies, friends or enemies, are generally kept outside, in the large “braide” where they camp. The gates also “filter” the goods that enter the city, and in this circumstance they are burdened by duties and tolonei: a habit that has survived to the present day and that has only been abolished in the last few decades.
