Guided Tour of General Verona Panoramic – Full Day

Program

Verona is ranged amongst the most visited towns in Italy due to its geographical situation, the richness of its works of art, it’s delicate climate, its beauty and the hospitality of its people.
This route is focused on those who wish to deepen their knowledge of the town, aiming to dwell not only on the best known monuments, but even visiting its churches and non-secondary squares. The sightseeing consists therefore in a Bus Tour which will show us the Renaissance Porta Nuova and Porta Palio Gates, the interior visit of the Basilica of St Zeno, including the vision of the Mantegna’s altar-piece, the famous work recently restored (entrance fee), the Castle and Scaligero Bridge, Gavi Arch, Roman Gate “Porta Borsari” and a ride up to the St.Leonhard’s Hill for a panoramic view over the town. After lunch time we’ll carry on with a walking tour in the old city-centre visiting the most characteristic points such as: the Basilica of St. Anastasia (entrance to be paid), Bra Square with the famous Roman Amphitheatre “Arena” (possible interior visit), Juliet’s House, Signori Square, Erbe Market Square, Scaligeri Tombs “Arche Scaligere”. On Sundays Churches are visitable only in the afternoon.

Additional Information

If the walls clearly separate the city from the surrounding territory – and not only physically but also “ideologically” – the gates are the link between these two worlds. A link that must be constantly monitored, also because through the countryside, inhabited by rustics, travelers or armies move, on important and less important roads, often with peaceful intentions but sometimes also with warlike intentions. Travelers are admitted after precise checks on their identity and their intentions, armies, friends or enemies, are generally kept outside, in the large “braide” where they camp. The gates also “filter” the goods that enter the city, and in this circumstance they are burdened by duties and tolonei: a habit that has survived to the present day and that has only been abolished in the last few decades.
