Guided Tour of Soave

Program

Guided tour of Soave: medieval walls and vineyards

Surrounded by vineyards and enclosed by sturdy battlemented walls, Soave is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Veneto, dominated by the imposing Scaliger Castle. Accompanied by one of our licensed tour guides, you will explore a charming village where history, architecture, and winemaking tradition come together in an engaging experience suitable for all ages.

The tour begins at Porta Verona, at the city walls. From here, by bus, you reach the Scaliger Castle, built by the lords of Verona as a strategic defensive outpost between Verona and Vicenza. From its towers, you can admire the picturesque vineyards of the Soave DOC. A curious anecdote: the castle was part of an elaborate network of fortifications that allowed visual communication between Scaliger strongholds.

The visit continues on foot through the Historic Center, passing symbolic landmarks such as Piazza dell’Antenna, Palazzo Pretorile, Palazzo Cavalli, Palazzo Municipale, the evocative Porta Aquila, and the Palazzo del Capitanato, which highlight Soave’s civic history. The tour concludes at the Parish Church, home to a valuable painting by Giovanni Battista Moroni, a refined Renaissance portraitist.

The itinerary can end with a visit to a local winery, where the production process of the famous Soave wine is explained, followed by a tasting of wines and local products (approx. €16 per person), offering a moment of relaxation and conviviality.

An ideal route to discover Soave authentically, guided by our official professional guides, who make the visit engaging and interesting even for student groups.

Additional Information

Soave is a town east of Verona, famous throughout the world for the production of white wine, obtained from grapes called GARGANEGA, grown in the mixed limestone-basaltic soils of its valley and 3 other nearby ones. The town is completely surrounded by the medieval Scaliger walls from the mid-14th century, dominated by a very well preserved castle (the best in the Verona area), and has a rather intact medieval center even if small. Contested for hundreds of years between sovereigns, feudal lords, Scaligeri, Venetians, nobles and senators, Soave with its Castle is today one of the most exciting attractions of our province. It is a small town in the East of Verona, famous throughout the world for the production of white wine, made from Garganega grapes, which are grown in the mixed limestone-basaltic soils of its valley. The town is completely surrounded by walls that testify to the great military activity to which Soave has been subjected since the mid-14th century. Dominated by the very well-preserved Castle, it has a welcoming and rather intact medieval centre.
