Guided Tour Dante’s Verona
Program
Dante’s Verona – Guided walking tour of the historic center
A captivating guided tour exploring Verona through the life and legacy of Dante Alighieri, the city that offered the poet refuge during his exile and played a crucial role in his intellectual and political journey. Accompanied by a licensed tour guide, visitors follow Dante’s footsteps through the historic center, discovering how Verona influenced the Divine Comedy.
The tour begins near Piazza Bra and the Roman Arena, a symbol of Verona’s ancient past, before entering the medieval heart of the city. The walk continues to Piazza delle Erbe, once the Roman Forum and still the vibrant center of city life in Dante’s time, and then to Piazza dei Signori, dominated by Dante’s statue and closely associated with the powerful Scaliger family.
Special attention is given to Cangrande della Scala, Dante’s protector and patron, praised by the poet in Paradiso. Here, the guide explains why Dante defined Verona as “the first refuge and the first shelter of my exile,” sharing anecdotes about court life and political intrigues of the early 14th century.
The itinerary continues past the impressive Scaliger Tombs, a masterpiece of Gothic funerary art, and the area of Castelvecchio, symbol of Scaliger power. Throughout the walk, references to specific cantos of the Divine Comedy, medieval daily life, and Dante’s personal experiences make this tour engaging and educational.
Ideal for adults, students, and literature lovers, the tour brings Dante’s world vividly to life.
