MASHUP VERONA: Art and Food and Wine
Program
Verona is a city rich in art, culture and taste. It is very famous in the world for some places of fundamental historical and cultural importance, but not only, capable of sparking so much curiosity. This city envelops the visitor in a suggestive atmosphere with its Roman finds, its Renaissance architecture, its immense artistic and architectural heritage, its crenellated walls, its wonderful views.
Walking in the historic center, surrounded by the Adige and its bridges and crossing the historic alleys you come across the two main squares of Verona: Piazza Brà and Piazza Erbe. In the central Piazza Brà is located the majestic Arena, the Roman amphitheater that during the summer hosts the famous opera season as well as concerts of internationally renowned musical groups. Also in this square you can admire the splendid Palazzo Barbieri and the Gran Guardia. From this square, the center of the city, streets full of shops for shopping and smaller and more characteristic alleys start. Piazza Brà is bordered by the “Liston”, the wide sidewalk that follows the course of the square where there are typical bars and restaurants. In the summer it is pleasant to stop here, sitting in the shade and enjoying a good wine or an aperitif. Piazza Erbe is the oldest in Verona and is a destination for many tourists and citizens. It is easy to find yourself with your head up with an enchanted gaze towards the frescoes of the ancient buildings and houses that surround the square making it fascinating. If you want to take a leap into the past, to the period of maximum splendor of the Scaliger lordship, just go to the nearby Piazza dei Signori and admire Palazzo Cangrande and the Loggia di Fra Giocondo, Palazzo di Cansignorio and Palazzo della Ragione.
The monument that arouses the most curiosity is undoubtedly Juliet’s House in which Shakespeare set the most poignant and tragic love story of all time and is always crowded with tourists.
Other places worth a visit: the Cathedral where you can find the famous Pala di Titian, the Basilica of Santa Anastasia, of San Zeno and Castelvecchio, the ancient manor built in the fourteenth century by Cangrande II della Scala, currently home to the civil museum of Verona.
Verona is not only beautiful during the day, you have to experience it at night too. Especially in the summer it lights up with international parties in the center and village festivals among the green of the hills and the countryside.
For theater lovers, the Roman Theater hosts theater and comedy shows and the famous jazz festival. Reviews in dialect, cabaret, concerts and musicals are also held at the Teatro Filarmonico and the Teatro Nuovo, which are two other important theaters in Verona.
